Another long, but wonderful, day today so this entry will be brief. We started the day in Spearfish, SD, and our first stop was at the Devil’s Tower monument in Wyoming. We hiked the loop, about 1.3 miles, around the tower. It’s a great stop along the route between other parks and our National Parks annual pass got us in for free.
After our hike there, we drove several hours en route to Cody, WY, for the Cody Nite Rodeo. More on the rodeo later.
Along the route, we traveled through Bighorn National Forest. We could claim to have plotted this activity out, but actually it was just courtesy of our GPS. We love our GPS now because this route through the mountains offered some of the most beautiful scenery we’ve seen thus far. In addition, we happened along a stop at Shell falls and were able to get out of the car for about 30 minutes, stretch our legs and take in a beautiful waterfall.
After that, it was on to Cody. The rodeo there runs every night from June through August. We have never attended a rodeo before, but we were made to feel quite welcome. In short, it was a blast and we would highly recommend this stop to anyone.
Tomorrow, it’s on to the Tetons.
